10k done, triathlon next

Quick update: I managed the Bupa Great Capital 10k run last weekend. It was a great run for me as I managed the full thing without having to walk at any point and broke the 70 minute barrier. I've also managed to maintain an injury free post race me though and above everything else, that's probably the most pleasing aspect.

What's next? London Triathlon in two weeks time. All I need to do now is get swimming and cycling. The running bit I'm hoping will be ok, given the run last weekend. Only time will tell though.

Fingers crossed.

35 minutes, and counting

Tonight I went for a run. I wasn't sure exactly how long I would manage and am delighted to report I did 35 minutes and could have done more if I needed to.

Which is just as well as I'm doing the Bupa Great Capital 10k Run on Sunday morning. My thinking is to manage one more run before Sunday, ideally up to 45 minutes, then hold on for dear life on Sunday itself.

Four weeks to London Triathlon too. Gulp.

Trying something new

The good news is I had no adverse reaction to Wednesday evening's rainy run. It was truly wonderful just to be able to run. Loved it.

The bad news is I've not been running since. Or swimming. Managed a bit of cycling to and from work but that almost doesn't count.

Fear not though, I've not totally given up. Instead I acquired myself an old second half cross trainer. My logic is simple. Frustration leads to terrible decisions being made. Hopefully this one will turn out to be a positive experience though. Three days in so far and it's proving to be good.

Time will tell I suppose.

Living in the moment

I've decided to live in the moment and not worry about what happens later. I spent lunchtime at the chiropractor working on my neck. This evening I managed a 30 minute run.

Tomorrow I'll face the results but for now it just feels so good. Pelting rain helped too.

Total catharsis.

Upcoming three month calendar

I've been humming and hawing over whether to raise money for charidee for this year's London Triathlon. Mainly because I wish to continue generating interest and funds for the RNLI but as I've raised money for them over the last few years I feel bad asking the same troupe of people to support yet again.

Anyway, in thinking about this I've decided this year I need to up the ante and instead of it "just" being a "simple" London Triathlon = RNLI = Steph raising money I should branch out and broaden the number of events, think of it as a pot of support if you like. So, here's what my next three months looks like:

20th July - Bupa Great Capital Run 10k
9th August - London Triathlon Sprint distance
7th September - Gyro Sport Aid 10k
5th October - Run to the Beat Half Marathon
12th October - Royal Parks Foundation Half Marathon

... phew.

And if I survive all that I should hear whether my entry into the London Marathon 2009 ballot has been successful or not around October / November time.

Hopefully that list contains sufficient adventure, pain and lunacy to spur people into giving a few quid for the RNLI. That said, this will be my third year which I think is a good solid innings for them so come next year I will go elsewhere. Have a year to think about exactly where.

Boring bits

Without intending to bore anyone, this is a short entry to let you know, once again my back has decided to go all teenager on me and demand unwarranted and uninteresting attention.

I'm beyond frustration. This constant see sawing between being ok and being on the floor is doing my head in. I've got the Great Capital 10k in two weeks time and I'd really like to do it. I've already missed the London 10,000 due to my back so really want to avoid making that 2 for 2.
