So I did that run and cycle last weekend and felt pretty positive about it. I mean my lack of fitness was there for anyone to see but at least I was able to move and it felt so good just being out and about doing something for a change.
That was Sunday.
By about Tuesday (after a swim) things started to get a bit sore. as each day passed my back seemed to sink further and further in to a hole. It culminated yesterday in me spending the day hopping between the floor and the couch looking for relief. No exercise, no training plan ticks, no t-shirts, no medals (yesterday was the Bupa 10,000 I'd been looking forward to), no sense of achievement. Boo.
Today I met with my chiropractor again who said due to some long drive (to Cardiff for Heineken Cup Final) and possibly some latent response to the long run/cycle combination my back had locked up. He's now "fixed" it - all evidence to the contrary I have to say given how I actually feel - but I 'm commited at this point, I mean it's not like I can go back 2 months and say uninstall all the remedial work he's done.
It's hard to know ultimately whether he's helped or not. I'm not back to normal, I'm frustrated and I don't seem to have that confidence that it will be remedied soon. I've got Blenheim Triathlon in two weeks time and have to say, if it were tomorrow or even this weekend I'd have to pull out.
Not a happy camper.

Back on the bike
For the last 2 months I've been seeing a Chiropractor looking to get my back back to normal. After the half marathon things went a bit kapluooy so I've been on the active sideline list ever since.
I've pulled out of the marathon (altho still going along to support my brother who is running)
but am still due to complete in the Blenheim Triathlon in early June.
So how is all this going to work? I'm gingerly back to running, only allowed to run twice a week tho, no more than 35 minutes - ironic given I've not been doing anything for the last two months which has rendered me pretty fitness free eitherway.
I've also been asked to up the swimming and the cycling. Anyway, with that in mind today I did my pre-arranged 30 minutes run and followed it up with an hour on the bike. The good news is I managed both intact and in times that woudn't quite have me last.
Onward and upwards hopefully.
