Four glorious days of nothingness and not once did I venture near a piece of running kit thanks to the back pain that continues to give.
It's 10 weeks to go to the marathon I entered (and have been training quietly for since November) and 11 weeks to go to my first triathlon of the season (in case I didn't manage the marathon).
Stormy Easter continues.

Flat on my back
So, my last entry was full of the joys of doing half marathons and feeling pretty chuffed with myself.
Notice the silence since then?
Turns out at some point after running 13.1 miles on the Sunday and Wednesday morning I upset the delicate balance that is my lower back. It's still not happy. And neither am I.
As a kid I had problems with my back due to a sports injury when I was 13. I spent much of my teenage years up and down off a hard bed oohing and aghing the unfairness of it all. Being like this now has flooded it all back. Somewhat overwhelmingly.
It'll be two weeks on Sunday since I ran last. I really felt I'd turned a corner in the saga of my back. I'd been so careful in how slowly I took up running and built up my back muscles by doing triathlon and all those good nurturing non weight bearing non impact sports. Which is why in a very overly dramatic self pitying way it feels like a massive fuck up.

Half Marathon in the bag
Sitting back at home with a medal round my neck and a finishers t-shirt on.
Half marathon, tick.
I did the FLM Adidas Half Marathon in Silverstone. I've nothing to compare a 13 mile race against but given today was supposed to be a training day of 10 miles I took a little breather when I hit that milestone, walked for 5 minutes before shuffling off again to complete the track. The good news was I felt strong when I finished, meaning there was no puff or out of breath issues the whole way around. What I did have however are niggles of (assumed) age on my hips and left ankle.
Hopefully a day or two rest before going back into the pool will put that to right.
My time was 2 hours 37 minutes and 10 seconds. By default it's a PB. More than that it's the first time I've run that far or exercised continuously for that long.

Half way there
I decided ultimately to throw my hat in the ring for the LFM Half Marathon in Silverstone. It's on tomorrow so I'm about to have some food and get my head around the idea that tomorrow I test my longer run development. Deep breaths.
Anyway, fingers crossed I make it round the track. Actually, initially fingers crossed I make it up there on time and that then I get to have a race pack - it never arrived on time. Oops.

Mid week
Managed a lovely swim yesterday only to not muster any running energy today.
Toying with the idea of doing the FLM half marathon in Silverstone on Sunday.
Would I be mad?

No fun today
After a weekend of unwittingly eating and drinking myself into a second body I'm humming and hawing over going out for a run. I know I need to (6 miles in the training plan) but it looks cold out there, the clouds have greyed over and it's the first time I've sat down all weekend.
Inclination 0 Guilt 1
I know there's fun in there but right now all my inner voice hears is discipline and sacrifice. This had bloody well better be worth it in the end!
