Speedy me

This morning I had my first speed session. I use the expression with a degree of caution given my general running speed could only ever be described as slow or a slightly grayer shade of less slow. These are the choices my body offers.

With that in mind I headed off, stopwatch ready, to do a 30 minute session. Suffice to say after the first five minute sprint like momentum I was gasping for breath and thinking this can't be right. I stuck with it though and was really quite chuffed with myself when I'd finished the full thing.

On the downside however, turns out I'd missed the ten minute warm up and cool down afterwards. Oops. Roll on next Wednesday's speed session ... not.

8.5 miles ahoy

This morning I was up with the larks and off pounding the riverbank like a good little jogger. The river looked really lovely, mist was hovering over and lots of rowers were out doing their thing. With a dry blue sky above what a smashing way to start the day eh.

I hadn't really thought how long I'd go for, was initially thinking about an hour (given I'd not done a long run this weekend) but in the end I plodded my way through 8.5 miles in just over 1.5 hours.

Not bad not bad at all for someone with only one gear.

Random Sunday evening

I've been a bit busy over the last week or so, just back from a few days down in Cornwall where I tried desperately (but failed) to test out my fabulous new wetsuit (courtesy of TriUK).

In random news and in no order, I've (a) got a new wetsuit (b) signed up to Blenheim (c) been training away but not for as long as I would have liked so a big week ahead to make sure the momentum is maintained.

Have another 10k in Clapham next weekend. 66 minutes is the target.

Loving my new 10k PB

I did the London Love Run this morning in London's Battersea Park. Anyone who uses the Runners World race reviews will know that I gave this race a hard time last year so I in the interests of fairness I have to say this year, credit where credit is due on balance I found it an improved event.

From a personal perspective I finished in 66 minutes which is a new personal best for the 10k so that's great news. Bizarrely I ended up going swimming afterwards for a relaxing warm down and jacuzzi. Lovely jubbly.

The night before etc

It's been a good week for swimming - helped by the absence of hot water at home but hey, I can't complain. I did 30 approx 30 minutes this morning and everything appears to have survived.

Tomorrow morning is my first official run of the year. Looking forward to it. Timing chip's in place. Number and safety pins attached.

Ready, steady, sleep.

Evening run

Had my first evening run in a while this evening. I went for 40 minutes and not a minute more and it's probably no bad thing 'cos my knees are a bit sore after all the long runs I've been up to recently. It's probably about time I started doing some swimming again too.

Tired now.
